Application
1. Size and shape
The first thing you should determine is what size and shape of fan you want.
Note that for some sizes there are different shapes (e.g. square frame and round frame for 140mm size) and depths (e.g. 25mm and 15mm for 120mm size, 20mm and 10mm for 40mm size, etc.), so also check which shape and depth is required(most 140mm CPU coolers use round frame fans, while most 140mm water cooling radiators use square frame fans).
If you have enough space, always choose the bigger depth fan (e.g. 120x25mm rather than 120x15mm) for the best possible performance.
2. Type selection
Choose the cooling fan based on the size and connector type of equipment needs to be cooled. Parameters include air volume, noise, power supply, etc. as follows:
- After determine the size, the air volume according to the formula based on the equipment’s heat, temperature rise and other data. Usually DC fan is divided into For several voltages, the air volume is also divided into four levels. Just select the appropriate air volume. If there is no detailed data here, generally choose the medium speed for testing. If this size cann’t meet the heat dissipation requirements, increase the fan thickness appropriately to increase the air volume, such as 40mm DC fan, with multiple thickness options of 10, 15, 20, and 28mm.
- Determine the voltage selection and support functions. Normally, DC fan offers multiple voltage options with the same air volume. For example, the 12038 DC fan with speed of 6000 RPM have 12V, 24V, or 48V can be choose. In addition, consider supported functions.If your equipment needs have PWM speed regulation and RD operation monitoring functions, determine whether these functions are supported after selecting the voltage. AC fans generally don’t support these features.
3. Noise level and RPM speed
Please refer to the dB(A) specification of each model for selecting one that fits your requirements regarding noise and performance. Generally speaking, higher rpm will result in higher noise levels, but note that the relation of RPM speed and noise relationship varies depending on the fan size (e.g.,the 2000rpm 40mm fan may be quieter than a 1500rpm 120mm fan) and the fan design different(e.g. the CGD12025L12X 120mm fan at 2000rpm is quieter than the CGD12025M12X 120mm fan at 2000rpm ), so always refer to our dB(A) specs, not just RPM speed
